Requiem / composed by M.Cardoso

Synopsis

This video work is a visualization of the unaccompanied choral work ”Requiem” composed by 16th century composer Manuel Cardoso. The piece is in the style of polyphony, in which multiple melodies are played with different pitches and rhythms. Each melody of the mixed chorus of 2 men and 4 women is represented by an animation in which the stroke of the pen moves with the pitch and length of the note, so that the polyphonic style in which multiple melodies intersect can be understood visually. Also, a single stroked line represents a single breath of the singer. This is a video work created for the Japanese TV program ”NHK Masterpiece Album + (plus),” which is based on the concept of appreciating classical music from a new perspective through collaboration with video artists.
